Marine Alerts, Advisories, and Warnings
U.S. Maritime Alerts provide basic information on reported maritime security threats to U.S. maritime industry interests and sometimes to refute unsubstantiated claims.
U.S. Maritime Advisories provide more detailed information about maritime security threats than alerts and also include policy or recommendations for specific courses of action.
Worldwide Navigational Warnings provide information about persons in distress, or objects and events that pose an immediate hazard to navigation worldwide.

U.S. Maritime Alerts
U.S. Maritime Alerts provide basic information (location, incident type, and date/time) on reported maritime security threats to U.S. maritime industry interests and are sometimes used to refute unsubstantiated claims.
Alerts are issued by the U.S. Maritime Advisory System, which involves cooperation between U.S. government maritime security partners from the Departments of State, Transportation, Defense, Justice, Homeland Security, the Intelligence Community, and the Global Maritime Operational Threat Response Coordination Center (GMCC).
U.S. Maritime Advisories
U.S. Maritime Advisories provides more detailed information about maritime security threats than alerts and also include policy or recommendations for specific courses of action. They are issued when needed and may precede or follow the issuance of an alert.
Advisories are issued by the U.S. Maritime Advisory System, which involves cooperation between U.S. government maritime security partners from the Departments of State, Transportation, Defense, Justice, Homeland Security, the Intelligence Community, and the Global Maritime Operational Threat Response Coordination Center (GMCC).
Marine Navigational Warnings
Marine Navigational Warnings are issued by the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) to provide information about persons in distress, or objects and events that pose an immediate hazard to navigation and safety of life at sea across the world.
The five types of navigation warnings: NAVAREA IV, HYDROLANT, HYDROARC, NAVAREA XII, and HYDROPAC are categorized by their location as shown on the map.
Worldwide Threats to Shipping Report
The Worldwide Threats to Shipping Report contains a summary of recent piracy acts and hostile actions against commercial shipping worldwide, organized by geographic region for the last 30 days. The actions can be hijackings, kidnappings, attempted boardings, attacks, and/or robberies. The report includes any recent developments in efforts to prevent piracy and prosecute the aggressors. The report is produced primarily to inform mariners and naval forces.
The report is published monthly by the U.S. Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI).
